Last month LinkedIn released their report identifying 'Most in-demand skills for 2024'. Top of the list? Communication.
“People skills are going to come more to the center of individual career growth,” predicts LinkedIn VP Aneesh Raman, “and people-to-people collaboration is going to come into the center more for company growth. For leaders, you’ve got to start with communicating clearly, compassionately, and empathetically with your teams.”
From our perspective, in a world increasingly dominated by digital communication, the art of meaningful conversation is not just a skill but a bridge that connects individuals, teams, cultures, and ideas. We all converse in our own conversational code and expect others to fully understand what we mean. But, this is also where the stakes are the highest as done badly it will lead to friction. The friction is caused because people have different expectations, perceptions, and experiences of what makes a better conversation.
A reflection question that you could muse on before your next conversation could be..."If I took full responsibility for how this conversation lands then what would change in my approach?"
